PinkTronix - Viewer Access Satellite Television

Eligibility For Activation of VAST Channels.

(This procedure has been greatly simplified since digital switch over.)

1) Any person can buy and install a VAST decoder.

2) Any person can have that decoder activated with ABC and SBS channels.

3) Activation of the commercial channels is best explained by the scenarios below.

SCENARIO ONE - You have an authorised Remote Area Broadcast Service for a specified address. (Travellers are covered below).

If you have an authorised Remote Area Broadcast Service. i.e. (Aurora- Optus card), you are automatically entitled to complete activation of all the vast services for your address, regardless of whether the area has been mapped as a black spot or not.
Generally you will receive all channel activation within 24 hours of registration. This activation is perpetual for the address registered. (It is not perpetual for the decoder/smart card. Thus, if you shift to a non VAST eligible address and inform VAST Admin you may lose activation of the commercial channels.)

SCENARIO TWO - You live in a VAST Admin gazetted black spot zone.

If you live in a gazetted black spot you are automatically entitled to complete activation of all the VAST services for your address.
Generally you will receive all channel activation within 24 hours of registration. This activation is perpetual for the address registered. (It is not perpetual for the decoder/smart card. Thus, if you shift to a non VAST eligible address and inform VAST Admin you may lose activation of the commercial channels.)

SCENARIO THREE - You live in a VAST Admin non gazetted black spot zone.

The black spot areas have been identified by a government field strength analysis based simply on transmitter power and a rough terrain map but without local knowledge of hills, valleys and vegetation issues, thus not all TV black spots will be gazetted by this interim government mapping system.

If you live in an area where some people can receive terrestrial FTA, but you cannot, your application will be processed on a case by case basis. If your address truly cannot get reliable FTA terrestrial TV reception you will not be refused.

You must request activation from VAST Admin and await clearance from the authorities before you will be activated on the commercial channels.
Generally you will receive commercial channel activation within 15 working days of registration if your application is accepted. This activation is perpetual for the address registered. (It is not perpetual for the decoder/smart card. Thus, if you shift to a non VAST eligible address and inform VAST Admin you may lose activation of the commercial channels.)

SCENARIO FOUR - You register as a traveller.

If you are on the road either on holidays, or in a shifting work situation you can register as a traveller.

Generally you will receive all channel activation within 24 hours of registration. This activation will have to be renewed every six months whilst on the road. (If you cease travelling and inform and inform VAST Admin you may lose activation of the commercial channels until re-registration as a traveller.)

The ACMA B58 field strength survey is no longer required for VAST application.

Also, the Satellite Subsidy Scheme is now closed in all areas.
